ABOUT THIS POSTER FROM DAVID GOINES: Irish stonework and a bit from the Book of Kells seemed just right for the Fifth Evangelist, as Bach has been called. Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, and Johann. The first edition of this design was for a sedate film about Anna Magdalena Bach, shown once or twice at the Pacific Film Archive and so crashingly dull that it played nowhere else, far as I know. The poster's reincarnation as general publicity for the California Bach Society came somewhat later. Artists probably invented recycling.

This is an original poster done by DAVID LANCE GOINES. It is a second printing of a second printing as designated by the chop mark. He did 3389 of these. It is 5 colors and measures 18" x 24". It is spectacular and ready to frame.

ABOUT DAVID LANCE GOINES: ARTIST and writer David Lance Goines was born May 29, 1945 in Grants Pass, Oregon, He attended the University of California at Berkeley as a Classics major, but in his second year was expelled as a consequence of his participation in the Free Speech Movement. Though later readmitted, he had by then lost his taste for higher education and in 1965 apprenticed with a Berkeley printer, becoming in the fullness of time a journeyman of that Art and Mystery. He is the author of five books, collaborated on three, and his work has been the subject of six others. His artwork has been exhibited in more than one hundred one-man and group shows, both national and international.


Printing: The 1st printing BACH was for a Movie at the Berkeley Film Archives. The second one was changed for the Bach Society. The one with the chop is the second printing of that one. It was done on April 13, 1979
