ABOUT THE VENUE: The California Hall was a small venue that competed with shows at the Fillmore and the Avalon. Big Brother and the Holding Company played the California Hall quite often, and many lesser-known Bay Area bands such as the Baytovens and the Hedds got their start there in 1965 and 1966.
